I recently read a Yahoo article
after checking my email because once you sign out, they entice you with these
stories that are just out there, and well, curiosity killed the cat.
I saw
an article that discussed a Men’s Health magazine cover. The subject was that a
“trans man” was close to winning the next cover model by winning the most
votes. I wasn’t even really sure what “trans man” meant exactly, so I did a
small bit of research. Basically, “trans man” is a person who is born a female,
but she decided that she did not want to be a female any longer and takes
hormones and has drastic, plastic surgery in order for her to appear to be more
like a man.
There
are several issues with this, but we will only cover a few in this post.
For one thing, she will never be a
man. Hear me out. No matter how much time and energy is put into her project,
she will always in reality be a female “trans man.” She will always have to take
hormones in order to be what she wants. Think about this: If I put water into a
balloon, or Kool-Aid or soda, or gasoline (?) for that matter, it will always
be a balloon. I can distort the balloon, turn it into the shape of a poodle or
anything like that, but it will always be a balloon.
The same goes for people who take female
to male hormones as well as male to female hormones. The only thing trans-genders
are changing is the appearance, not the essence.
For another thing, when a person
seeks to change their gender, they are basically saying that they know better
than God does. They are basically making themselves out to be God. This is the
purpose of this post. It is because idolatry is so widely accepted that it is
not even seen anymore that I must write about this. The Bible says, “For the
time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to
suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers
to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away
from the truth and turn aside to myths” (NIV 2 Timothy 4:3-4). It seems like
that “time” came a long time ago.
People will not tolerate
intolerance, even if it is the truth. This is the world of “if it feels good,
do it.” With that type of mentality, people are putting themselves first. To
suit their only desires, they place themselves in the community which will
support their selfish endeavors. The phrase “gay community” and “trans-gender
community” are popular phrases because they are only getting bigger. People
want to serve their own desires, but that is not what we were meant to do.
It is said that Idolatry could be
the only sin. If you think about it, the Ten Commandments all point to
idolatry. The first three are obvious: No other gods before God, No graven
images, and do not use the Lord God’s name in vain. When you treat God’s name
as common, you are calling Him common, and equal to many other things. Either
that brings other things up to God’s level and breaks the First Commandment, or
it lowers God and still breaks the first commandment, since there is nothing
equal to Him. Breaking the Sabbath and not honoring your father and mother are blatant
disobedient acts against God, and in doing so, you are making the choice
yourself, ultimately calling yourself God. Murdering is a sin because it is
taking the life of another person, something only God is entitled to do. Adultery
is self-serving, and again, you’re putting things in front of God, just like
stealing. Why do we lie? Most of the time it is to protect our own agendas,
which leads to idolatry. Coveting is obvious… you’re putting things in front of
God again. If you’re self-serving or selfish, then you’re putting yourself in
front of God.
In any event, the First Commandment
is really all we need, but God is gracious in that He gives us more. Breaking
His Law is what sin is. Breaking the Law of God is sin. This is where Jesus
comes in. I am not saying that I am any better than a “trans-man” because I am
a sinner as well. I have broken God’s laws, just like everyone else has. Romans
3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23
explains why we die, which is because of sin. It says, “For the wages of sin is
death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. In
other words, we die because of sin but Jesus is the solution to this huge
problem of being separated by sin from God. He took our sins to the cross and
died in our place. Jesus lived a life never breaking the Law of God once
(something only God could do), and only in Him (John 14:6), we are freed from
sins. This is what John means when he says, “The Law came through Moses, but
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (John 1:17). In other words, Jesus
sets us free from the Law of God! We become a child of God through Jesus. How
do we do this? We admit our sin to God and turn from our sin and instead turn
to Jesus. Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, then you will be
saved.” Trust in Jesus today with your soul. Read the book of John and Romans
for more clarification.
